The heart of man, unlike his mind, does not become educated through the accumulation of hearing facts, rather the heart is educated through the experience of feeling emotional forces.
While the mind has the ability to logically weigh what it hears, the heart, in contrast, weighs emotionally the things which it feels. Yet the heart and mind, while educated differently, are intrinsically bound together serving in man’s making of decisions. This joining of heart and mind is by divine design.
To be mind-guided only would ultimately lead to cold calculations and to be heart-guided only would invariably lead to emotional convenience. The tug-of-war experience created by the heart and mind each seeking dominance in decisions is experienced by all normal humans.
It is necessary, therefore, for man, in able to successfully make right decisions, to have an intervention of The Word of God (divine mind) and the Love of God (divine heart) which elevates man’s mind and heart giving him the ability to make “righteous” decisions. Without this divine impartation, man is left to flounder in his life guided only by his own wisdom and his own feelings. The fingerprint of God, therefore, must be left on man’s mind as well as on his heart.
Once it is understood of mankind’s urgent need of God’s interaction in their heart and mind it also becomes clear as to why I Cor. 1:18-21 states: “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”
“It pleased God…” Or “God chose” to save those who would believe the preaching of His gospel! A gospel not of just the intellect but a gospel also of the heart. Confession of the mouth (mind) and belief in the heart are the two essentials which must become one for salvation! This is God’s design to rescue man from his inability to order his own steps and give unto him something greater than his own mind and heart — The mind and heart of Christ!
This is why the beauty of Acts 2:38 still outshines all the self-help ways invented by mankind! It is also why the gift of the Holy Ghost is still the defining miracle of the ages!
